Another Icon Gone Too Soon, Prince Has Died At Age 57
Prince Rogers Nelson, known affectionately by a mononym, Prince, was found dead inside his Paisley Park studio in Chanhassen, Minnesota on Thursday afternoon. The investigation into his death is ongoing. However, early reports from TMZ indicate he was battling “flu-like” symptoms recently. He was so ill less than a week prior that his private plane was forced to make an emergency landing in Illinois.
Going against doctors wishes for an overnight stay, unable to obtain a private room, Prince the left the hospital early. According to Cosmopolitan, ‘Us Weekly reported that Carver County Sheriff Jim Olson confirmed Prince was discovered unresponsive in the elevator of Paisley Studios this, and while medical personnel provided CPR, they were unable to revive him.’
Prince left an indelible mark on U.S. culture. He was not just a world-class singer. Prince was a visionary, fashionista, masterful musician and iconic performer that transcended generations! The outpouring of heartfelt dedications and memorials to the legend were emblematic of the impact he had on so many people’s lives.
NFL fans will never forget The Artist’s most iconic live performance. In February 2007, Prince performed at halftime of Super Bowl 41. Most unforgettable moment of that performance was his flawless rendition of “Purple Rain” as blankets of rain fell throughout the entire show.
As he stated in Way Back Home, “most people in the world are born dead, but I was born alive.” Though his body perished April 21, 2016, his legacy and influence will live on forever.
