Trump Pardons Racist Former Arizona Sheriff
Cowardly using devastating Hurricane Harvey to cloak his treachery, Donald Trump pardoned convicted former sheriff of Maricopa County (Ariz.) Joe Arpaio. The individual who allegedly ran as the 'Law and Order' candidate has done more to skirt and subvert the law than previously thought imaginable.
Trump sent a clear message to law enforcement officials on Friday afternoon - if you break the law by discriminating against Latin Americans, the White House and Justice Department will fully support that criminal activity. With the following tweet, Trump further demonstrated his indifference to the rule of law:
I am pleased to inform you that I have just granted a full Pardon to 85 year old American patriot Sheriff Joe Arpaio. He kept Arizona safe!

So long as criminality is soaked in white supremacy, Trump and the Justice Department will allow that behavior to continue with impunity. This is not only the America people of color have always known, it is the AmeriKKKa we've always loathed. Pundits who believe Trump pardoned Arpaio in efforts to signal staffers being investigated for Russian collusion by FBI special counsel Bob Mueller, are mistaken.
Trump lacks the requisite intellect and forethought to devise such a scheme. This pardon was wholly meant to drop an anchor that secures his racist base that adored Arpaio for stripping Latin Americans of their humanity.
Arpaio was proudly responsible for terrorizing Latin American communities. He made it his personal mission to round up people with brown skin in an attempt to have them removed from a country he many Trump supporters believe should remain all white. Pardoning Arpaio was not shocking. Rather, it is more of the same from the white supremacist sympathizer occupying the White House.
